Scope Scanner — Accessibility

Our position

Scope Scanner is built to be usable with the accessibility features already in your device: VoiceOver, larger text, Reduce Motion, and increased contrast. We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as it applies to a native mobile application.

We are stating that as a goal we work to and test against, not as a certification. Below is what has actually been done, and — just as importantly — what has not.

What the App does today

Text size. The App follows your system text-size setting, including the larger accessibility sizes. Text is capped rather than fixed: dense numeric screens stop scaling before they become unreadable, instead of ignoring your setting altogether. Layouts have been checked at the largest accessibility size to confirm they reflow rather than collapse.

VoiceOver. Interactive controls carry a role, a spoken label, and a selected or toggled state. The price chart is described aloud — its symbol and timeframe, how many bars are shown, the visible price range, the latest price, the direction across that range, and any moving-average overlays that are switched on. That description reports what is drawn and nothing else; it does not characterise the market, because the App does not do that anywhere (see the Disclaimers).

Reduce Motion. When Reduce Motion is enabled in your device settings, the App’s animations — pulses, glows, sweeps and flickers — do not run. Nothing essential is conveyed by motion alone.

Flashing and photosensitivity. The App’s visual style is animated throughout — flickering borders, blinking icons, pulses, glows and moving sweeps. Reduce Motion stops all of it, as described above. We do not claim the animated interface meets the flash thresholds in WCAG 2.3.1, and we do not recommend the App to anyone with photosensitive epilepsy or any other seizure disorder; the Disclaimers carry the full health warning. If Reduce Motion leaves anything in the App still flashing, that is a defect — please report it and we will treat it as one.

Touch targets. Interactive controls are at least 44 points, and controls that are drawn smaller than that extend their touchable area to meet it.

Colour. Colour is never the only way information is given: rising and falling values carry a sign and a number, elevated volume carries a duration, and alerts carry text. Text colours have been checked against WCAG AA contrast ratios and corrected where they fell short.

No time limits. Nothing in the App expires, times out, or requires you to act within a period. Market data updates on its own, and you can stop it updating by leaving the screen.

Known limitations

Stated plainly, because you should be able to decide whether the App is usable for you before you install it.

  • The chart’s crosshair cannot be driven with VoiceOver on. VoiceOver takes over the touch area, so the drag gesture that positions the crosshair is unavailable. The spoken chart description exists to carry the readings the crosshair would otherwise give, but it summarises the visible window rather than letting you inspect an individual bar.
  • The App is visually dense by design. It presents a large amount of numeric information per row. Even at the largest text size some screens require horizontal awareness that may be tiring.
  • We have not commissioned an independent audit. The conformance work above was done and tested by the developer. An external assessment has not been carried out.
  • Some secondary labels are not yet capped for text scaling. They remain legible at ordinary accessibility sizes but have not each been individually verified at the maximum.
  • The spoken chart description is new. Its wording is tested, but the announcement has not yet been listened to end to end on a physical device with VoiceOver running. If it does not read the way this section describes, that is a defect and we want to hear about it.

We do not consider this list finished. It is what is known now.

Alternatives

Everything the App displays is derived from public market data. If a barrier here prevents you from using it, the underlying figures are available directly from Binance.US and CoinGecko, whose own accessibility practices are theirs rather than ours.

This statement is maintained alongside the App and updated when the interface changes. If you believe it overstates what the App does, that is itself something we want reported at the address above.
